What is the raspberry?
Our understanding of the concept of nature is constantly being challenged by technical developments. For example, the familiar taste of raspberries can not only originate from a ripe fruit, but can also be produced as a flavoring with the help of E. coli bacteria. This process is classified as "natural" in the European flavoring regulation, as it originates from a biological process. At the same time, it offers the potential to save considerable resources. This raises the question, what image we have in mind, when we taste raspberry? Is the raspberry a plant, a process, a fruit or a taste?
To discuss this question with visitors, we made the raspberry the focus of an exhibition stand for the NABU hands-on days in Mannheim 2020. The project was also shown in the NaturFutur exhibition at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin.
