FUKS-Bikes

FUKS is a free bike rental service based on donated bicycles in Schmalkalden. FUKS bikes can be found at four stations throughout the city and are available for free use after a one-time registration at the Milchhalle. The project is organized and operated by committed citizens with the support of the city of Schmalkalden.

FUKS uses minimal analog infrastructure (combination locks, no bike tracking). Orange handles, orange locks. The focus of the interaction design is on strengthening analog social networks and relationships. The overarching question: How can we create momentum for positive, people-oriented transformations?
